The Nakodar Nagar Council (NC) has issued notices to Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans and 13 members of a trust formed by him to manage the affairs of a local dera headed by him.

NC president GS Dhiman said that the notices ask the respondents to explain why legal action should not be taken against them for forming a trust on NC land, an illegal action. Dhiman said that till Wednesday, no reply had been received from Hans or any other trust member.

NC executive officer (EO) Varinder Jain said the resolution passed on January 25, terming the trust as illegal, is pending for approval with the deputy director local bodies, Jalandhar.

He said that he would initiate further action in this connection only after the resolution is approved.

EO said that the NC had written to the tehsildar wanting to know if there was a refernce to khasra numbers 406,407,and 410 owned by the NC in the registration deed of the trust.

Tehsildar Bhupinder Singh said that only the declaration of a trust had been registered and there was no mention of any land in the document. Councillor Hari Mittar Sondhi, who had lodged a complaint with the secretariat president against Hans Raj Hans, said that the singer was using his political connections to delay approval to the NC resolution against him.

He alleged that the trust formed by Hans was illegal and the Valmiki community was upset at this. Ward number 3 councilor alleged that authorities concerned were evading the issue and were reluctant to take any action against him due to his political approach.

Hans, who is also the vice-president of ruling ShormaniAkali Dal, had formed Almast Babu Lal Badshah Trust, which was registered on January 25. He is the sole managing, hereditary trustee with the right to nominate his successor.
