Nakodar road crash: Legal body would provide free aid to kin

The families of 13 school children killed in a road crash on March 4 will legal aid by the Jalandhar legal services authority to fight their case for claims.

Chief judicial magistrate-cum-secretary Tejinderbir Singh said this on Saturday after paying homage to the accident victims. Addressing seminars at Mudh and Talwandi Bharo villages to educate kin of the deceased and villagers about their legal rights, he said that the authority would provide the families with best lawyers to punish the guilty and fight for claims.

He said that the kin of the deceased could fight either in their individual capacity or as a group, addign that the free legal advice would be avaialbel at the trail court level and up to the supreme court level.

The kin of the victims told the DLSA that a case should be registered against the school management for violating government law, claiming that the Akal Academy at Boparai Kalan village was not a recognised school.

They also demanded that the case regsitered agisnst the driver of the truck, which collided with the school van should be reviewed, as Jagjit Singh was not at fault. The CJM also assured them that the authroties concerned would be apprised of their views.
