There is no proper sewerage to drain out water immediately after it rains in the town, as a result of which water gets accumulated on roads. This is the main reason that the roads here get damaged fast as water remains on them for days together.
The government has failed to allocate enough funds to the cash-starved civic body which has no sources of its own to carry out development works.
Post Office Road, Railway Road, the stretch between bus stand to Jalandhari Pulli, Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar road and Gauns Mohalla Road are in a bad shape.
“Many roads have not been carpeted for the past many years. Water damages roads at low-lying places,” said Arvinderpal Singh, a journalist.
“The authorities concerned need to carpet these roads immediately,” Arvinder pal Singh said further.
Executive officer Rajiv Oberoi said an estimate of Rs 153.95 lakh was submitted to the government for repairing main roads in the town, which is pending for approval.
He said he had again written to the government about the condition of roads and hopefully the funds to start work would be received soon.
