Narayan Sai, son of Asaram, who is wanted in a rape case in Gujarat, was rounded up at Pipli town in Kurukshetra district on Tuesday night. Sai was reportedly apprehended by the sleuths of the Crime Branch of Delhi Police near a petrol pump located on National Highway 1.

An eyewitness said around four cars fitted with red and blue beacons stopped at the petrol pump around 11pm and Sai was probably present in one of them.

"No one was in police uniform. They enquired if the premises had CCTV cameras. When the owner said the cameras were non-functional, they asked the staff to fill petrol in two cars," Shiv Mohan, who was on duty at the pump, told reporters at Kurukshetra.

However, Mohan could not confirm how Sai was attired.

"They remained there for around 15 minutes. The SUV that probably had Sai inside was marked by other vehicles," he said.

Meanwhile, the Haryana police claimed to be unaware of the move. Kurukshetra SP Y Puran Kumar told HT that the district police had no official information about the arrest of Sai from its jurisdiction.

"According to our inputs, Sai was intercepted by the Delhi police on NH-1 and taken to Delhi. We have failed to get a clarification about the arrest by the Delhi police as our officials were told that the sleuths were busy in handling the case," said the SP.

He said the Kurukshetra police were not involved in intercepting or arresting Sai in any way.
