Nation's 'martyr' Sarabjit Singh cremated with full state honours

Sarabjit Singh was cremated with full state honours on Friday. Thousands turned up for the last rites of the martyr, including large number of politicians including All India Congress Committee vice- president Rahul Gandhi, union minister for external affairs Preenet Kaur, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa.

Apart from them, majority of leaders from the state cabinet were also present for the cremation. Punjabi sufi Singer Hans Raj Hans also attended the martyrs last rites.

As politicians had poured in large numbers to attend the last rites, residents of Bhikhiwind were denied permission inside the cremation ground.

However, the crowd comprising of both young and old climbed on roof tops to catch the last glimpse of Sarabjit Singh.

Earlier, in the day Punjab cabinet, which had met for an emergency session, passed a resolution to declare him a 'national martyr'.
