Riding high on brisk business done in the preceding winter season, the knitwear and apparel manufacturers have started preparations for the next season.

With this motive, Knitwear and Apparel Manufacturers Association of Ludhiana will organise a five-day national buyer-seller meet from May 11 to 15.

More than 100 manufacturers from city and leading retail chains, such as Reliance, Shoppers Stop and other retailers from across the country, are expected to take part in the event.

Association president Sudershan Jain said the annual event was being organised in the city for the past six years would give a chance for manufacturers and retailers to plan their strategies for the winter season.

“The manufacturers have to plan for the next season about six months in advance. So the interaction with the retailers during this period of year is important. It gives both the manufacturers and retailers an opportunity to plan for the season so that they could come up with the products by October, the starting time of the winter season,” he said.

At the event, the manufacturers will place their designs for the coming season, while retailers will place their orders. It will help manufacturers to draw broader outline for the season.

“What is more interesting about the next winter season is that neither retailers nor the manufacturers have any kind of stocks with them. Due to deliberate low production by the manufacturers, and good demand due to long winter in last season, all stocks were sold. This year, all winter products would be new,” he said, adding that the prevailing sentiment in the market seemed very good for the industry.
