National Youth Award tobe conferred on city girl

Khushmeet Kaur Bains, a final year student of MSc botany, has been selected for the National Youth Award for the year 2011-12, a press note here on Thursday.

The award is being conferred on her in recognition of the illustrious service done by her in the field of education and helping slum children.

She will be awarded a silver medal, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs40,000 at a ceremony to be organised by the department of Youth Affairs, Government of India. However, the date of the of the award investiture ceremony has not been announce by the department so far.

Earlier in March 2013, she has been awarded with Shaheed-E-Azam State Youth Award for the year 2010 and in November 2011, she was awarded Indra Gandhi National Service Scheme.

Khushmeet Kaur Bains and her father, Lajpal Singh Bains, have been teaching the poor slum children since 2007 after the death of her grandmother, who used to teach these children.
