The Centre's Rashtriya Yuva Niti and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan was launched in the district on Friday on a ceremony at boys' senior secondary school Dhalpur Kullu.
Addressing the students, Kullu deputy commissioner Rakesh Kanwar, who inaugurated the schemes, said that the Centre has initiated the scheme to accord equal opportunities for physical and mental development of across the country and provide basic facilities for them in rural areas, the 'backbone of the nation.'
Urging students to become sportspersons rather than being mere spectators, he said that determination leads one to achieve one's goals.
The scheme, aimed at boosting sports in the country, will see a sports complex equipped with "modern facilities" for 11 outdoor and 5 indoor games constructed in each block in the district with an estimated cost of `1.75 crore. Three coaches are to be appointed in each sports complex to impart the training to students in different games.
"This scheme will help put the country on the global map," he said and urged students to participate in all sports activities.
