Union minister Harsimrat Badal on Wednesday said Rajya Sabha member Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is likely to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will pose no threat to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the upcoming assembly elections.

Talking on the sidelines of a function at Attari border, Harsimrat called the cricketer-turned-politician an “opportunist” and said he had already been “discarded” by the people.

“When Sidhu came to Amritsar (to contest Lok Sabha elections on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket), he was victorious by more than one lakh votes. In the last election, he managed to win by just 6,000 votes. This shows how popular he is,” said the Union minister.
