Nawanshahr DC reviews flood protection measures

The Nawanshahr district administration will spend Rs 2.1 crore for strengthening the Dhussi bandh across Sutlej river as a major flood prevention measure.

Deputy commissioner Tanu Kashyap said that the money would be spent on priority works, including Rs 85 lakh on strengthening of Burj Tehal Dass and Tajowal complexes. Another Rs 25 lakh would be spent on strengthening of Dugri complex, Rs 30 lakh on Rail Majra complex, Rs 15 Lakh on Paragpur complex and Rs 55 Lakh on Auliapur complex of the Dhussi bandh.

The DC directed the officers of the drainage department to ensure that the work was completed before the rainy season. District flood control room have been assigned landline number 01823-505824, while sub-divisional control rooms have been given landline numbers 01823-220016 and 01885-220075 for Nawanshahr and Balachaur, respectively.

DRO Shiv Kumar said that 50 sensitive villages along with the Dhussi Bandh had been identified as sensitive. The DC has directed the DTO, XEN Powercom and DFSC for arrangements of transport, power supply and ration, respectively in case of any emergency.
