Nawanshahr:Six of marriage party killed in road accident

Six persons including a minor boy were killed in a road accident on the Nawanshahr-Chandigarh highway in Kathgarh town of district on late Friday night when a speeding canter collided with several vehicles that were on their way to a marriage.

Meanwhile, six persons sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Ropar civil hospital and PGI Chandigarh.

The incident occurred ar around 9 pm, when the party was going to Kurali in Mohali district from Nawanshahr.

The driver of the canter lost control of the vehicle when it reached near Kathgarh and hit a car and then collided with several vehicles of the marriage party.

After getting information about mishap, DSP Balachaur Dig Vijay Kapil, SHO Kathgarh Avtar Singh and others rushed to spot and initiated the rescue operation.

The impact of the accident was so severe, that corpses of the deceased had to be retrieved with the help of an excavator.

DSP shifted the injured to Ropar and those serious were transferred to PGI Chandigarh. He said that a team of SHO Kathgarh Avtar was deputed to regulate traffic on the road which remained choked for an hour after the accident.

DSP said that the driver of the canter, Happy, was taken into police custody and has been taken for a medical examination.

We are trying to collect details about deceased as they are yet to be identified, he said adding that the dead bodies have been sent to Balachaur civil hospital.
