The National Cadet Corps (NCC) directorate has sent a proposal to the union ministry of human resource development, calling for the introduction of NCC training as an elective subject in schools across the country, said NCC director general, lieutenant general PS Bhalla, in Kapurthala on Thursday.

"Many good schools have refused to introduce NCC as a subject, stating that it interfered with their study modules. If NCC is a part of the curriculum, its marks will be added to the overall grade," said Lt Gen Bhalla who was in Kapurthala to visit the NCC unit of the 21st Punjab Battalion.

"We have also recommended 2% reservations for B and C certificate holders in government jobs. Annual camps of short duration will be organized so that students have not problem attending these."

The director general also discussed issues related to payment of remuneration etc for the cadets from Punjab.

Commanding officer of the battalion Raobinder Singh said: "It is the first time that a lieutenant general has visited the 21st Punjab Battalion. We are very proud and happy."
He added that the batallion had created its own website to kept the cadets posted on exam dates and other programmes.
