A seminar 'Hamara Jal, Harama Jivan' was organised in the Senate Hall of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences here on Thursday as part of the water week. Speaking on the issue, Dr SK Sehgal, a senior scientist from water resources and development board, Union government, said that "110 blocks out of the 138 are being overexploited for water in the state.
Two blocks of Faridkot also fall in this category. Though water resources are enough in the country, yet th requirement for water has increased too much due to rise in population. We must try to save water wherever possible," said Dr Sehgal. "80% water is being used for the agriculture sector and its usage can be minimised by sowing short-duration crops besides those not needing enough water," said Nirmal Singh, executive engineer. VK Syal, SDM, was chief guest on the occasion.
