The Nepalese domestic help that had allegedly burgled the house of an insurance officer at Hambran Road on July 5, has been arrested, along with his four accomplices. The police have recovered Rs 2.4 lakh that he had burgled from the house, besides several valuables.
The accused have been identified as Keshav Bahadur, Lachhman Bahadur, Ujwal alias Rinku Bahadur, Amar Bahdur and Dhan Bahadur, all residents of Nepal.
Giving details about the arrest, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) crime wing Manjit Singh Dhesi said following a tip-off, the police arrested the accused from a vacant plot at Neechi Mangali area of Sahnewal on late Wednesday night. He claimed that the accused, who were carrying sharp-edged weapons, were hatching a robbery conspiracy, when they were nabbed.
The ADCP claimed that the accused had admitted their involvement in several loot and snatching cases at Hambran Road, Samrala Road and Ferozepur Road.
He further added that the accused used to work as domestic helps in houses, and Keshav had got a job at the house insurance officer Sunil Sood around 25 days ago.
On July 5, when no one was present at home, the accused called in his accomplices, drugged the other helper in the house, and looted cash and valuables, before fleeing.
Sood had then lodged a complaint at Haibowal police station.
Another case under section 399/402 (preparation and assembly for dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused at Sahnewal station.
