Body of a watchman was found in a vacant plot near Ludhiana central jail, Tajpur road on Tuesday morning. Unidentified killers had dumped the body after killing him brutally with sharp-edged weapons. The police have registered a case of murder against unidentified accused.

The deceased has been identified as Sher Bahadur, 40, a resident of the Kishore Nagar area. He was watchman of the area.

The police have sent the body for postmortem examination and have been suspecting old rivalry behind the killing. The police have started zeroing on the people that were known to him and were spotted with him on Monday evening.

SHO at the division number 5 police station Inspector Dalip Bedi said, "The police came to know about the body on Tuesday morning when someone informed the police about it. The police reached the spot and initiated an investigation."

"A diary was found from the deceased, in which some phone numbers were written. The police have made calls on the numbers to identify the body and got to know about the details," he added.

The SHO said the killers had attacked Sher Bahadur with sharp-edged weapons. It has been assumed that the killers have murdered him at night.

"It has been suspected that the killers have murdered the watchman following an old enmity, but the police have been investigating the matter from several other aspects, including loot," the SHO added.
