The municipal corporation here has finally implemented the new outdoor advertising policy and issued instructions regarding its execution with immediate effect.
Under the new policy, the civic body has formulated specific norms and earmarked places for installing bill boards and posters across the city.
MC Commissioner Indu Malhotra said that strict action would be taken against the advertisers violating the advertising norms.
Earlier, advertisers used to install billboards anywhere in the city without the fear of any action. It had expected to collect Rs 2.5 crore from April 2014 to March 2015 but, ironically, it has not earned a single penny so far.
"We have drafted the new policy and set special norms for advertisers. If any person, who defaces any property in public view by writing or marking it with ink, chalk, paint or any other material or writing slogans without the written permission, the owner of the property shall be punished," she added.
Meanwhile, the civic body has given one week to shopkeepers to install fix bill boards outside their shops according to the new norms in the policy. The defaulters can be fined Rs 50,000, she added.
