The engineer-in-charge of the MC intentionally kept the level of the road low in order to harass the shopkeepers, people alleged.

On both sides of the road, which is also intersecting road of ward no 18 and ward no 19, only business establishments exist. Three banks are also situated on the road along with a cinema theatre. Incidentally, most of the people getting affected here are not the voters of this area, due to which they feel that their interests are being ignored by the MC from years.

Through a joint forum, New Railway Road Area Association, they tried to raise their issues at different level but failed to get any action initiated for its improvement.

The road, which is also the main entrance of the city, is full of potholes and at most of the places it was badly damaged causing inconvenience to commuters while driving.

“Three days back, a lady sitting at the pillion of a scooter carrying her four months old kid fell in the water as her husband, who was driving scooter failed to balance. Both of them were saved by the shopkeepers who were standing outside and reacted timely,” said Rajiv Soni, a local businessman adding that, “In rainy days, we all become free as nobody pass through this road.”

Authorities Speak

Additional Commissioner (Technical) Bridges & Roads, Kulwinder Singh when contacted said, “We are aware about the poor condition of this road. The sewerage system of this road had been re-laid and upgraded. Very soon, we will call the tenders for this road. It is sure before next monsoons, the condition of this road would be improved.”
