Nirlep Singh Rai has taken over as the general manager in charge of Nangal unit of the National Fertilisers Limited (NFL) after the “unceremonious” exit of his predecessor, who has been moved to the corporate office in Noida.

Former unit in-charge Aman was due to retire in July. His transfer has invited condemnation from the NFL scheduled caste and scheduled tribe employees’ welfare association. In a statement issued here on Friday, association president Nirmal Singh and general secretary Surinder Kumar termed the transfer of the official, who belongs to the SC community, a clear case of victimisation on the base of caste and community.

Punjab industries minister and state legislator from Nangal Madan Mohan Mittal and Lok Sabha member from Anandpur Sahib Prem Singh Chandumajra were, reportedly, unhappy with the official for his “adamant” attitude towards local truck operators, who have been demanding that the NFL should hire their trucks for transporting urea from the plant.

The new in-charge, Rai, has 32 years of professional experience. He has worked at all units of the NFL in various capacities. He was earlier holding the charge of technical services and projects at the Bathinda unit.
