NGO demands action against colleges for charging fee from SC students

NGO 'Global Awareness Trust for Awareness' has demanded from district administration to take action against colleges which charged fees from SC students despite government's post-matric scholarship scheme.

The NGO has also requested to DC to order colleges to give back money taken from SC students from them during their admission.

A delegation of parents, students along with NGO's officials met deputy commissioner on Monday at her office.

Yash Pal, father of Krishan Gopal who took admission at local Lyallpur Khalsa College said that college authorities took Rs 6000 at time of admission of his son into B.Com class.

He said that he had also submitted a SC certificate and even revealed to authorities about post-matric scholarship scheme but they said that money has to be given.

Pal said that he is daily wager and has not enough money with himself for education of his son.

Another, Janis Mahey, a resident of Lambra said that he went to local DAV College and contacted for admission into BA-I class.

He said that he had even submitted Rs 3000 to college but authorities have not been issuing admit card to him.

He accused that he repeatedly visiting college for contacting admission but college gave only harassment.

NGO's president Madan Singh said that despite earlier directions by administration to college's principal to not to charge money from SC students, college authorities took admission fees and harassing the students who are visiting their institutions for admission.

He said that a memorandum has been submitted with deputy commissioner who assured stern action against these colleges for charging money from SC students.
