A non-government organisation, Sarhad Social Welfare Society, honoured 151 girls on their first Lohri at Fazilka on Sunday. Presiding over the function, Anurag Thakur, national president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, accompanied by state BJP president Kamal Sharma presented gifts to the infant girls after lighting the Lohri.

"It's high time such programmes were initiated to realise the value of girl in the family as well as society," said Thakur.

Kamal Sharma suggested to those present on the occasion to initiate concrete measures to stop killing of girls in the womb.

"As per enriched Indian traditions, we must worship girls in real life and take all measures to eradicate the menace of female foeticide in the wider interest of society," he added.

Fazilka DC Basant Garg, state BJYM president Mohit Gupta, Zila Parishad chairperson Sukhmandeep Kaur and district BJP president Sita Ram Sharma also attended the function.
