The strike of the National Health Mission (NHM) employees continued for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. The protest was held outside Mother Child Hospital.
The protesters submitted their memorandum to the assistant director health and family welfare and state immunisation officer, Dr Gurinder Bir Singh.
The employees were protesting against the Punjab government's decision to rationalise their salaries and also not to provide regular pay scale to them. The employees said their protest would continue until their demands are met.
Neelam Kumar, a member of the union said, "Though the authorities agreed not to stop the increment of the old employees on name of rationalisation, no written orders in this regard has been issued till now. Moreover, the government has done nothing to implement our long pending demand of regular pay scale." The strike of the employees will continue on Monday also.
Assistant director health and family welfare, Dr Gurinder Bir Singh said, "Authorities have taken up the matter of NHM employees and we hope that matter will be resolved soon."
When questioned about the effect of the strike on the implementation of Mission Indradhanush scheme, Dr Singh said, "Though we have regular employees to take up the mission work, still we hope that the issue will get resolved and all the NHM employees will participate to make the mission success in the state."
