The National Health Mission (NHM) employee union held a protest march on the ninth day of their strike on Wednesday. The union is protesting against the Punjab government's decision to rationalise their salaries. They are also demanding regular pay scale.

The protesters organised the march from civil surgeon's office to fountain chowk through old court road. The members also raised slogans against the government.

The strike partially affected the vaccination programme of the health department in the urban and rural primary health centres. The vaccination programme, which is done on every Wednesday at the health centre, is done with the help of Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) staff nurses and doctors etc.

All the ANM, staff nurse and doctors working under NHM were on the strike and at few centres, regular ANMs also joined the stir.

Sarabjit Kaur, district president of ANM union, said, “We want the government to listen to our demands. We don't want to protest but we were left with no other option.”
