Nidhi Gupta won her sub-junior and junior singles matches to enter the semifinals of both the events on the opening day of the 24th Chandigarh State Carrom Tournament, being organised at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, on Sunday.
In the sub-junior event, Nidhi Gupta got the better of Drishti Jain 21-0, 21-0 in a lopsided affair to enter the last four. In other encounters, Sanya Chadha thrashed Ashu Sharma 18-0, 18-0, while Komal Gupta brought down Aakanksha Bhatia 21-0, 11-1. Maryam Khan also made it to the sub-junior semifinals after ousting Gungun Kakkar 16-0, 21-0.
Nidhi secured her second semifinal berth after beating Aakanksha Bhatia 21-0, 21-0 in the junior event. Also, Priya Sharma beat Maryam Khan 20-5, 21-1, and Manu Gupta brought down Sanya Chadha 20-0, 17-8. Tuba Sehar completed the lastfour line-up by thrashing Komal Gupta 12-0, 21-0.
In the boys’ section, Chirag C and Viren Pathania won their respective matches to enter the third round of the sub-junior singles event. While Chirag beat Ansh Gupta 15-2, 17-0, Pathania brought down Keshav Goyal 8-0, 9-0.
Meanwhile, Aryan Singh Dhaka got the better of Bhagesh Nigam 13-0, 19-3, and Gurjeet Singh thrashed Manna Singh 12-0, 14-9. Ishan Sharma, Rishu Sharma, Akshiv Chopra and Gurrehmat Singh also won their matches to cruise into the third round.
In the boys’ junior singles section, Sanklap moved into round two with an 11-0, 13-0 win over Bhagesh Nigam. Chirag C brought down Karanveer 23-6, 21-0 to register his second win of the day (after the victory in sub-junior section). Mihir Yadav defeated Yash Gupta 10-0, 12-6, while Nimtanshu got the better of Akshay Gupta 21-0, 21-0 to cruise into round two.
