A Jalandhar court on Saturday extended the police remand of two Nigerian nationals, arrested with 4-kg heroin during a late-night raid earlier this week, by four days.
Producing the duo before the duty magistrate in the evening, the Rama Mandi police sought seven more days to quiz the duo to get vital clues about a drug network involving more foreigners and locals.
The cops also sought production warrants to bring one of their accomplices from the Kapurthala jail to interrogate the trio together. While they could secure only four-day custody, the decision on the other request is pending.
The duo will now be taken to the joint interrogation centre in Amritsar for quizzing, said sources.
The accused — Agu Emmanuel, 32, of Amokwe city, and Okoh Precious, 20, of Asaba city — were arrested late on Monday night from Panchsheel Enclave near Dakoha area in the city, where Agu was staying on rent. They have been in police custody since then.
Okoh had allegedly brought the contraband from Delhi and the two were planning to leave the house when they were busted. Sources said Delhi-based accomplices of the accused have gone underground and switched off their phones, because of which the police team that had gone to the national capital have returned empty-handed.
