Nine held for taking drugs

The police have arrested nine people on the charge of taking drugs from a house in Guru Arjun Dev Nagar on Tajpur Road late on Wednesday night. Four among those arrested are history-sheeters. For the first time, the Division 7 police have booked the accused under sections 22, 27, 61 and 85 of NDPS act. One of the accused managed to flee from the spot.

Those arrested are Ramandeep Singh alias Sarpanch (28) of Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, Satyajit alias Dibba (39) of Nali Mohalla, Jagjit Singh alias Honey (27) of Sewak Nagar of Dholewal, Rajesh Kumar alias Shammi (26) of Vishwakarma Nagar on Tajpur Road, Ashu Verma (25) of Hari Kartar Colony, Mohit Sharma (22) of Prabhat Nagar of Dholewal, Vishal Malhotra alias Shalu (25) of Prabhat Nagar of Dholewal, Ajay Sharma alias Pandit (32) of Guru Arjun Dev Nagar and Sarang alias Shavi (24) of Harcharan Nagar.

Deepak Kumar alias Deepa of Indrapuri gave police the slip taking advantage of the darkness.

Sub-inspector Harbans Singh, incharge at anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing, said the police raided at the house following a tip-off. The police had information that the accused used to gather at the house of Ramandeep Singh alias Sarpanch and take heroin. When the police raided the house, Sarang alias Shavi and Deepak Kumar alias Shavi were standing outside to keep a vigil, while others were inside the house and allegedly high on drugs. The police arrested eight people from the spot. Shavi and Deepak managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. Later, the police arrested Shavi too, while Deepak was still absconding.

Singh said the accused Satyajit alias Dibba, Jagjit Singh alias Honey, Vishal Malhotra alias Shalu and Ajay Sharma alias Pandit were history-sheeters. Many criminal cases, such as attempt to murder, extortion, are registered against the accused at various police stations.

The police have been trying to know from where the accused used to procure heroin. The police have sent the blood samples of the all the accused for testing.
