Municipal corporation has failed to take action against the private contractor who has blocked the civic body’s parking lot along Ferozepur Road for his vested interests. The contractor Bhola and Co, who manages the multilevel parking at the mini-secretariat, has blocked the entry points of a parking lot outside the secretariat so that residents are forced to park their vehicles inside the multilevel parking by paying excessive fee.

There have been several complaints against Bhola and Co of charging rs40 instead of rs23 from four-wheelers, and `20 instead of `12 from the two-wheelers at the multilevel parking.

Many residents have also demanded that his contract be cancelled, and re-tendering be done, but the authorities were so far reluctant to take any action due to unknown reasons.

Earlier, the MC’s parking lot outside the mini-secretariat was managed by Bhola and Co, and the contractor had blocked its entry point by placing boulders.
However, on September 22, the contractor surrendered all parking lots on Ferozepur Road by giving a notice of four days. But he did not remove the boulders from the entry point.

An MC official said the blockage was giving direct profit to the contractor, who was fleecing the visitors, who had to park their vehicles at the multilevel parking, as they had no option because the entry to the lot outside the mini-secretariat was blocked.

“At present not even MC is managing the lot due to staff shortage, and visitors can park their vehicles at the lot for free. But the goons of the parking contractor have forcibly closed the lot, so that the visitors have to park their vehicle inside the multilevel parking on exorbitant fee,” the official said.
Mini-secretariat that lies along Ferozepur Road is visited by several people on daily basis as many senior officials of the district administration sit here. The fleecing was going on here under the nose of officials.

Rajeev Bhardwaj, who recently joined MC Zone-D as superintendent of the tehbazari wing, said that he would immediately remove the blockage.

“I will ensure that visitors who wish to park their vehicles at the parking lot along Ferozepur Road near mini-secretariat are not harassed by the contractor. Action will be taken soon,” Bhardwaj said.
