No arrests in 10 months, 22-yr-old rape victim kills self in Jalandhar
Though no suicide note was yet found, the woman had submitted a complaint with the police commissioner on October 10 and alleged that the persons named in her complaint -- including a local, self-styled godman -- were not being arrested as they had close relations with some cops.
A 22-year-old nurse who had been alleging police inaction in a rape case registered in December last year, reportedly committed suicide on Monday evening by jumping in front of a train near Jinda.
Though no suicide note was yet found, the woman had submitted a complaint with the police commissioner on October 10 and alleged that the persons named in her complaint -- including a local, self-styled godman -- were not being arrested as they had close relations with some cops.
But station house officer of police station-1, Balbir Singh claimed the woman and her mother had submitted affidavits with police that they had given wrong statements about the accused, after which police recommended cancellation of FIR. As of now, the FIR has not been cancelled.
After her suicide, officials from the Government Railway Police are investigating the case and have taken the body into custody. At the time of filing of this report around 8.30pm, the cops were recording the statements of her family members. The woman worked at a hospital near Maqsoodan Chowk.
