Member of Punjab scheduled castes commission Dalip Singh Pandhi has rubbished the allegation of social boycott of Dalits at Namol village of the Sunam sub-division of the district.
Earlier, members of the Dalit community of this village had alleged that a few members of upper castes had made an announcement calling for the boycott of Dalits and farmers of upper castes had also decided to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on any farmer of the upper caste if he was found talking to Dalits.
Pandhi, who visited the village on Monday and talked to the Dalits and farmers of upper castes, said that the farmers had not called for any boycott of Dalits.
On the delay in the auction of six acres of the reserved common land, Pandhi assured that he would take up the issue with the chairman of the commission Rajesh Bagha and hoped that a solution would be found.
