Residents are a harried lot due to the non-availability of space for dumping garbage in Aggar Nagar. Members of the Ludhiana Aggarwal Co-operative House Building Society Limited, Aggar Nagar, alleged that the municipal corporation (MC) had failed to make provision of a dump where garbage of the area can be disposed.

On the other hand, MC officials claimed that it is the responsibility of the society to arrange their own space to dump garbage. The MC has also directed the Aggar Nagar society to stop throwing garbage at the dumps of other colonies.

Earlier, sweepers of the Aggar Nagar society used to throw garbage outside pedestrian underpass towards Sector A side of Aggar Nagar. But, after opening of the pedestrian underpass last month, the sweepers had stopped throwing garbage there. Following this, the society members had decided to dispose garbage at a dump in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. But, the sweepers of the area opposed it.

Now, the garbage is being dumped outside pedestrian underpass towards Sector B side of Aggar Nagar. The residents have appealed to the MC to find out a solution at the earliest.

Society manager Krishan Kumar said, “We have requested the MC many times to make provision of another dump so that the garbage is thrown there. We are not being allowed to throw garbage at other dumping points. We pay property tax, then why the MC doesn’t pay attention towards our issues,” he said.

MC health and sanitation wing chief Amarjit Singh Sekhon said, “We cannot allow the Aggar Nagar Society to throw garbage at a dump in BRS Nagar. The society should make arrangements to dump the garbage inside their society from where it will be lifted timely. We also offered that our sweepers will lift garbage from door to door, but they are not ready.”
