No headway in cash van robbery case

Three days after a gang of robbers looted abandoned,5 lakh from the cash van of State Bank of Patiala at Khuda Ali Sher, the Chandigarh police have not been able to make any headway in the case. The police had recovered the abandoned vehicle by the robbers at Sector 4, Panchkula.

The vehicle was also caught on the CCTV cameras as it passed through Chandigarh and Panchkula. Initially , the CCTV had reflected five persons, later two persons, in the car. The CCTV footage the camera, installed outside a house at Mansa Devi Complex, showed the assailants leaving behind their SUV.

Investigating the case, the DSP operation cell, Satbir Singh, said the robbery appears to be a handiwork of criminals and not first timers.

He added, “These days it has been noticed that the criminals also gang up after they have met each other at jails. The list of recently released accused from jail is also being verified. The CCTV footage showing the robbers is also being studied in detail.”

The data of suspected robbers in Punjab and Haryana is also being collected. The SUV Fortuner vehicle used in the robbery was snatched from Amarjeet Singh, at Shambhu barrier on June 22. The robbers had put up a fake number plate with Haryana registration number. The actual number of the vehicle was CH0 AJ 0641.
