The residents of the historical city Fatehgarh Sahib are deprived of basic needs like an inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) despite having completed 23 years as a district. Because of this they have been facing a lot of problems especially in rains as there are no sheds for the passengers to take shelter.

When HT interacted with a few passengers, we got to know that a number of people visited the city as it has all the district headquarters, but were facing a torrid time in the absence of an ISBT. Even the buses which have a scheduled stop at Fatehgarh do not stop there at times. It is completely at the mercy of the driver.

Manpreet Singh, a passenger said that it was a huge embarrassment for Fatehgarh Sahib as it doesn't have a dedicated bus stand while in Bassi Pathana, a small town falling in the district had constructed a big bus terminus with sheds and other facilities. Singh said that he did not understand why the state government and district administration failed to provide the basic facility of a bus terminus.

Presently, the main bus stop receives about 200 buses daily, which depart for various destinations in the district as well as to other towns of the neighboring states in the country.

Another passenger Manjeet Singh said, "I travel daily from Khanna to Fatehgarh Sahib and due to the lack of a proper timetable, I have to wait for long periods and it becomes unbearable during rains."

Talking to HT, the president of municipal corporation, Gurvinder Singh Bhatti said that four acre land had been provided by the municipal corporation near GT road but due to some technical problems which he was not aware of, the project was getting delayed.

Bhatti said that they would try to start the construction project as soon as possible. However Kuljit Singh Nagra, the MLA of Fatehgarh Sahib said that he has been urging the government to provide an ISBT since the town has religious-historic importance and lakhs of devotees visit it round the year.

He also said that being a public representative, he is not aware of any reason for the delay of the project and added that if there was any technical problem, the administration was duty bound to remove it.
