All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and party's in-charge for Punjab Shakeel Ahmed on Saturday claimed that no formal meeting of the party was convened at the Amritsar residence of Batala MLA Ashwani Sekri.

When asked to comment on Sekri's claims that the meeting was held with the knowledge of the party high command, Ahmad told HT over telephone, "No such meeting was held. Sekri talked to me and informed me that certain party leaders had come to meet him at his residence. These included some senior leaders as well. As such there was no formal meeting."

On the growing dissidence in the party in Punjab, Ahmad said, "I have asked everyone not to go to the media. If there is anyone who feels that he or she has been left out or if anyone feels that he has got a junior post in the PPCC, they all can come to me and we can sit together and sort out the differences."

In a bid to check dissidence, Ahmad said that the PPCC's disciplinary committee would be formed in a week's time. ?
