Absence of the stubble burning issue — one of the main causes of smog cover over Delhi — in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) manifesto has exposed the party’s vested interests in promoting petty politics, said Punjab Congress leaders on Monday.

With an eye on the forthcoming Punjab assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP has chosen to maintain silence over the serious matter of stubble burning in the state, said Punjab Congress leaders Rana Gurjit Singh, Dharamveer Agnihotri and Inderjit Singh Zira.

“While the Congress has been maintaining a clear stand on stubble burning, ambiguity of the AAP leadership in the matter indicates a deliberate attempt by Kejriwal and his colleagues to hogwash the farmers of Punjab,” said the PPCC leaders in a statement here.

“The bhagoda Kejriwal is again showing his colours by getting ready to leave the national capital, when it is shrouded in a cover of thick smog, to spend five days in Punjab in order to promote his vested political interests,” said Punjab Congress leaders Aruna Chaudhary, Karan K Brar and Lakhwinder K Garcha.
