Chandigarh: Those planning to travel by train from Chandigarh railway station on Monday need to check and then make alternate arrangements accordingly as 17 trains, including Shatabdi and six passenger trains, have been cancelled that day.
This has been done due to non-interlocking work of double laning between Ambala and Dappar stations. Besides the cancellation of trains, 20 others have been partially cancelled and 14 have been diverted.
The worst affected will be the people who travel in passenger trains without advance booking.
No train will ply for six hours between Ambala Cantt and Chandigarh from 8:10am till 2:10pm on October 5; and another 8-hour block would be at Ambala Cantt station (8:10am to 4:10pm), resulting in the cancellation of trains.
The afternoon Shatabdi from Chandigarh, will depart three-and-half-hours behind schedule at 3:30pm from the Chandigarh railway station. Jan Shatabdhi will begin its journey from Kurukshetra instead of Chandigarh. Other trains, including the one running between Kalka and Bandra, will start four hours late from their schedule time and Chandigarh-Jaipur train will start two hours late from its scheduled time from the city railway station.
RK Dutta, station superintendent, Chandigarh railway station, said that regular updates would be made on the website of the railways about the diversions and cancellations of trains.
“This is an ongoing repair work which was planned well in advance and bookings were made accordingly,” Dutta said.
Volvo and taxis in great demand
Owing to cancellation of trains, the demand for Volvo tickets and taxis have increased.” All the buses going to Delhi are booked to full capacity on Monday,” said a attendant at the Sector 17 bus stand.
