Even as locals are irked with the authorities for the lack of educational facilities in the region, additional director general school education (DGSE) Parampal Kaur has said she has not received any information regarding the new school upgrade policy that the state government had been directed to formulate.
"The decision to upgrade the local government high school to senior secondary level has to be taken by the government," she added.
Residents had alleged that while the school, established in 1856, fulfills all specified conditions for its elevation to senior secondary level, students were forced to take admission in private high schools, which charged high fee.
The Punjab and Haryana high court had directed the government to formulate a new policy for upgrade of schools after a petition was filed by social worker Aditya Bhatara in March last year.
In response to a query of the grievance removal department, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Authority deputy state project director said a proposal in this regard was sent to the government in February and November 2012, but is still pending.
