Reacting on the exposure of ballot papers being printed and photocopied by a private firm at a marriage palace in Jalandhar on Monday, Congress spokesman Sukhpal Khaira has raised doubts over the fairness of the election polls in the state.

"The exposure has left no room for free and fair elections. The exposure of a private firm printing/photocopying ballot papers indicates a well-planned conspiracy by the SAD-BJP government to rig panchayat elections," he said.

"To maintain transparency, secrecy and security, it is imperative for any government to print ballot papers at a government printing press and secure them in their custody. There is absolutely no control of the State Election Commission over the printing of ballot papers, as Akali-BJP supporters are seen present in large numbers in the said marriage palace at Jalandhar," he added.

He apprehended that these illegally printed/photocopied ballot papers would be distributed to all Akali candidates to ensure their victory tomorrow.

"The Congress had been constantly approaching the high court and the state election commission in the wrongful and malafide formation of wards and other gross anomalies.

The present process of Panchayat elections has been hijacked by the ruling SAD-BJP alliance. The said elections are nothing but a farce, mockery and murder of grass root democracy," he added.
