City residents are missing the regional dance performances by the participants of the 18th National Youth Festival across the city as they have no prior information about the fest.

Due to lackadaisical attitude of the state government, no publicity of the youth fest had been initiated.

The dance performances by the young participants from several states like Jharkhand, Karnataka, under non-competitive category, are sudden and short. Participants from across the country have come to Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) to display their talents and highlight the culture of their respective states.

Invitation to the youth fest is free and open to all but because of lack of publicity, only a handful of people visit the PAU campus to watch the multicultural performances.

The 18th National Youth Festival is in an initiative of government of India in collaboration with the state government in which nearly 4,000 participants have participated. The participants, after taking part in the competitive activities on the PAU campus, also go out at different places in Ludhiana to perform and attract the locals to the fest.

There was also a plan to take the participants to different schools to perform, however, the plan was scrapped later.

Vinay Bansal, a resident of civil lines, said he had seen a performance of a group at Sarabha Nagar market on Monday. “The performance was brief and abruptly ended before anyone could understand. There is no prior information of such performances either in newspaper or on television,” said Bansal.

Raghubir Mann, who is managing the non-competitive activities at the festival said performances outside the PAU campus would take place at five areas, including railway station, bus stand, Sarabha Nagar market, Gole market at Model Town and Gumar Mandi.

The youth festival started on January 12 and will end on January 16.
