Court has denied anticipatory bail to three members of the family of the Moga legislator, Joginder Pal Jain, in a case of illegal real-estate development.

The additional sessions judge of Faridkot on Tuesday turned down the petition by Jain's wife, Swarnlata; son, Akshit; and daughter, Rohini, in which they had sought stay orders against their arrest warrants, which was to be executed before April 5.

On March 14, the Faridkot judicial magistrate (first class) had issued their arrest warrants and told the police to bring them to the hearing on April 5. On February 5, the same court had also issued non-bailable warrants against another of Jain's sons, Puneet, after he had skipped successive hearing on the pretext of being unable to fly home from abroad.

On March 16, the family had applied in the sessions court for stay on their arrests. The family is wanted in a case of the misuse of agricultural land for commercial purpose and building a residential colony on it. On August 26, 2007, the report had been lodged at Mehna.

During the last hearing, the family had requested the court to exempt it from personal hearing. Only Jain won the exemption, as the state assembly session was on at that time.

When the case was registered, Jain was in the Congress and he said it was motivated politically. Now, he has won his seat again after switching to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
