Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal on Wednesday assured the farmers that there would be no shortage of bardana (jute bags) during the ongoing wheat procurement. Atwal visited the Doraha grain market to supervise the wheat procurement process.
While speaking on the occasion, he said the Punjab government has made appropriate arrangements for the smooth procurement of wheat crop in the state. He said directions have also been issued that there should not be any shortage of the jute bags.
He also interacted with the farmers and directed the officers to redress their grievances on the spot. The arhatiyas and farmers present on the spot also honoured Atwal as they said that both paddy and wheat procurement in Doraha Mandi has always taken place smoothly.
While interacting with the mediapersons, Charanjit Singh Atwal said Doraha town will have a fire brigade facility soon, and three new judges would be appointed shortly at civil court in Payal. He said that the Punjab government has made arrangements to ensure hassle-free procurement of wheat crop in the state. He said that strict instructions have been issued that payments to the farmers should also be made on time.
He also thanked the Central government for increasing the compensation amount for the damaged crops. He informed that till date, around 1850 metric tonnes (MT) of grains have arrived in the mandis of the district, of which more than 1,000 MT has already been procured.
