Even as thousands of passengers board buses at PAP Chowk everyday, there is not a single toilet at this place, forcing the commuters to urinate in the open.
PAP Chowk is one of the most crowded places in the city with a heavy rush of passengers from Amritsar, Pathankot and Jammu among others.
Most of the passengers prefer PAP Chowk to save time since all buses coming from the bus stand stop here. The vicinity is located on the main highway and the district administration had declared it as “no stoppage area” but buses continue to stop here. Commuters blame the government for the inconvenience.
The vacant lane behind the footpath alongside the PAP headquarters could be used for constructing toilets, many feel.
Commuters further said after repeated requests the municipal corporation had installed mobile toilets which were removed from here a few months ago.
MC officials said this place is not a government-approved bus stop and this was the reason they did not build toilets there.
ACP (traffic) Dalbir Singh Buttar said the district administration is planning to give approval to a bus stop at PAP Chowk soon for the convenience of public, but the decision has been put on hold due to construction of road.
