Majority of the city areas are lacking the basic facility of streetlights due to which the residents as well as commuters are having a tough time. Despite raising the issue several times, the MC has failed to provide a solution to the problem.
The areas where the problem is worst, include Dugri, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Harnam Nagar, Atam Nagar, Haibowal, Dhandhara Road, Janta Nagar, Gill Road, Pakhowal Road, Sham Nagar, Dashmesh Nagar, Gandhi market and some of the areas in Old City among others.
According to the residents, most of the streetlights in the area are not in functioning condition due to which many thefts occur in the area. Residents say in absence of light, it becomes difficult to walk in the streets at night.
Residents claim that the authorities concerned seem to have learned no lesson from the rising number of theft and snatching incidents reported in the past from several areas.
Residents are forced to live with a fear as during night time miscreants lurking and taking advantage of dark, pose serious threat to the lives of the area residents.
Moreover, in rainy days, the potholes in the area get waterlogged, and during night accisdents occur in absence of light.
Moreover, residents claimed that the road passing through the underpass near Lodhi Club to Pakhowal Road is very dangerous as streetlights installed along the road are non functional for the past several months. Despite several complaints, officers have failed to resolve the problems.
