A day after AAP spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira addressed a press conference in Jalandhar on the Sucha Singh Chhotepur controversy, Khaira was at pains to explain that he was not “supporting” Chhotepur.
In a release issued here on Monday, Khaira said his statement about Chhotepur was “misconstrued and misinterpreted” adding that he stood by his words that Chhotepur’s removal was “unfortunate and sad”. “I did not mean that I was throwing my weight behind him politically, as reported by some papers. I reiterate that I stand by the collective decision of the party pertaining to Chhotepur, but yes I did term the Chhotepur episode unfortunate as I felt so from my heart.”
“I also stand by my logic that if the sting carried out against Chhotepur is the handiwork of any of our party leaders, then it is highly condemnable and those responsible for the sting must be taken to task,” he said.
