Now, complain at MC kiosk in case of overcharging for parking

Taking note of complaints of overcharging by contractors of parking lots on Ferozepur road, municipal corporation (MC) has decided to set up a kiosk where visitors, who are overcharged, can file a complaint.

The decision has been taken after a large number of residents complained at the Zone-D office of MC regarding overcharging and misbehaviour by men, who man the parking lots.

The contractors have allegedly been charging `30 for the first hour of parking in violation of the Punjab and Haryana high court orders. As per the orders, `10 should be charged for the first hour of parking and `20 for the second hour.

To begin with, the tehbazari wing will set up a kiosk near Silver Arc Mall, which is close to LRY parking lot against which several complaints have been received. Contractor of this parking lot, Raju, has always denied the allegations saying correct amount was charged from visitors.

However, HT is in possession of the parking slips issued by the contractor. Reflecting the contractor's wrongdoing, the slips have been torn from where the rate is printed. A slip of another parking lot owned by Jugnu contractor is also torn in the similar fashion.

Jasdev Singh Sekhon, superintendent of tehbazari wing at Zone D, said the wing would also install large-sized boards that would highlight the original rate of parking for the visitors so that overcharging by the contractors could be checked. He added that order for the boards had already been placed, and they would be installed shortly.

Devinder Singh, commissioner of Zone D, said complaints against fleecing by contractors had been pouring in. Therefore, the corporation had decided to install a kiosk, where an MC official would be posted with a complaint register. “The official would note down the complaints of the visitors and then report it to us, so that appropriate action can be taken against the contractors,” Singh said.
