Moga district

In a fresh development, Moga district, which was under the jurisdiction of regional passport office (RPO), Chandigarh, has been included in the regional passport office in Jalandhar.

Earlier, applicants from Moga district used to apply at passport seva Kendra in Ludhiana, which is under the Chandigarh RPO. Applicants from Moga will now be entertained at any of the three passport sewa kendras located in Jalandhar.

The notice will be effective from September 19.

Those applicants who have already applied online or have taken appointment will be serviced at passport sewa kendras in Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Ambala while their passports will be issued from the regional passport office, Chandigarh, only.

The decision has been taken considering the application process capacity at passport sewa kendras. The authorities had recently conducted a study on the application process capacity at various passport sewa kendras wherin they found that the processing at the Ludhiana centre was slower.

"Since applicants were receiving appointment from the Jalandhar passport sewa kendra the very next day, the administration thought of including Moga in the Jalandhar RPO jurisdiction," regional passport officer Harmanbir Singh said.

Last year, three districts from the Majha region were included in the Jalandhar RPO.

At present, three districts from Majha, one from Malwa and four from Doaba region are under the Jalandhar RPO jurisdiction.

Appeal to applicants

The regional passport office, Jalandhar, has appealed to the applicants from Batala, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Pathankot to approach the Hoshiarpur passport sewa kendra as it will be nearest from their place.
