Now, Ramdev booked for hurting Sikh sentiments

Beleaguered yoga guru Ramdev has landed in another controversy. An FIR has been registered against him here on the charge of allegedly hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs during his yoga camp held at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district in November 2011.

A photograph that has gone viral in the past few days shows Ramdev sitting on the stage, with a picture of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru, kept near his feet during the camp.

The case was registered at Division No. 4 police station on a complaint by local resident and member of Sikh Talmel Committee Harpreet Singh. after

A case under sections 295-A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of IPC on was registered on Monday evening, disclosed ADCP, Jalandhar-1, Naresh Kumar Dogra.

"On the basis of complaint, the case has been registered against the Yog Guru. Few vernacular newspapers have also reported this matter. However, the validity of the photo if it is real or not is part of the investigation," said Dogra.

This is second FIR against the Yoga Guru in last ten days. On May 3, an FIR was registered against him in Jodhpur after Ramdev controversial remarks that, "Rahul goes to Dalits' houses for honeymoon and picnic.

The Sikh Talmel Committee members also burnt effigy of Ramdev at company Bagh chowk and submitted a memorandum to police. The members demanded arrest of Ramdev within two days of registration of case.

Meanwhile, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh has slammed Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev for allegedly showing disrespect to Guru Gobind Singh by placing his (Guru's) photo near his feet during a Yoga camp at Talwandi Sabo.

Giani Mal Singh said that action of Baba Ramdev had hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs, for which he must tender an apology adding that the Sikh community would never forgive him if he failed to tender an apology.

Ramdev when tried to contacted was not available for comments. However, his close aide in Patanjali Yog Peeth, Swami Arya, said the Yoga Guru is unavailable for comments as he had gone to Gurukul in Haryana on a personal visit.
