A fresh incident of alleged sacrilege was reported on Wednesday in Moga district of Punjab, which was recently rocked by a series of protests over such cases.

A police spokesman said three torn pieces of the holy book were found in Maleke village in Baghapurana area of the district.

Additional police force was rushed to the village, where a large number of locals and outsiders gathered.

The villagers were not allowing the police to collect the torn pages and wanted the religious preachers to visit the spot.

Punjab has recently been rocked by a series of protests over a number of desecration incidents taking place in the state starting with Bargari at Faridkot.

During one such protest, two people were killed in clashes between agitationists and police.

Punjab government has handed over the probe of the sacrilege incident at Faridkot and the subsequent killing of two persons in police firing to CBI.
