The Patiala division of the National Rural Health Mission(NRHM) Employees Union held a protest outside the Civil Surgeon office, demanding regularisation of their services here on Monday.

They raised anti-government slogans and alleged that they were being subjected to step motherly treatment.
Union district president Meena Rani alleged that the government was befooling the employees by giving false assurances.

She claimed that the Punjab Government had passed a notice regarding regularization of auxiliary nurse midwife (ANMs) services in 2011. However even after two years the government has failed to implement it.

" With the Lok Sabha elections nearing the Punjab government is busy taking credits for schemes and projects including 'Nanhi chahan', but in reality the government is not serious about protecting new born babies and their mothers", she alleged.

Meanwhile, union member Dilbir Singh said that the government was providing six months maternity leave to regular employees whereas the contractual employees were being given only three months maternity leave.

The agitators rued that they were being made to work day night at low wages.
