BATHINDA: The police have arrested the daughter, two grandsons and two others and booked a non-resident Indian (NRI) son of a couple for murdering them in Poohli village near here in a property dispute.
Those arrested have been identified as Jaswinder Kaur, daughter of the murdered couple; grandsons Gurpreet Singh, son of late Harbans Singh, the second son of the couple; and Pardeep Singh, son of Jaswinder Kaur, and two other persons Sukhdip Singh and Iqbal Singh.
Kulwant Singh, son of the victim couple, who lives in England, has also been booked in the case.
The case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered on the basis of a complaint by Bikar Singh, a relative of the victim couple. The police had earlier registered a case for abducting the couple against unidentified persons.
The couple Rajinder Singh, 65, and Amarjit Kaur, 60, residents of Poohli village, had gone missing on August 28, and Beant Singh, a relative of the couple, had lodged a complaint about their disappearance at the police station on August 30 when he didn’t find them at their house.
However, the relatives had expressed apprehension that the couple might have been murdered by their son and daughter as they were having a property dispute with their parents.
Station house officer, Nathana police station, inspector Baljit Singh, said that during interrogation, the accused have revealed that they strangulated both to death on the night of August 28 and threw their bodies in a canal on the Punjab-Rajasthan border in Muktsar district. The police were trying to trace out the bodies.
