With the police yet to register a case against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders who were allegedly behind a nude video of Congress worker Dharam Singh shot by cops that went viral on the social media, party workers on Friday staged a protest in Mehraj village in the district.

Mehraj is the native village of state Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh.

Party workers took out a protest march in the village, demanding that the police register a case against SAD leaders on whose pressure cops stripped Dharam Singh, a resident of Bhai Rupa village, at Phul police station and made his nude video on November 17, 2015.

The police have booked two head constables Ram Singh and Harinder Singh in this connection, who are on the run. The two accused, along with Phul SHO Jai Singh, have been suspended.

Dharam Singh alleged that the video was uploaded on Facebook by the grandson of a senior SAD leader on February 5, a day after polling for the Punjab assembly elections. The video went viral on social media thereafter.

Dharam Singh and three others were reportedly picked by the police on November 17, 2015, before they were to hold a demonstration against Punjab rural development and panchayats minister Sikander Singh Maluka to protest sacrilege incidents and taking over of a disputed land by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

The Congress will also be staging a protest at Bhai Rupa on Saturday, in which party workers from Rampura Phul assembly segment will take part.
