Once politicians, now busy in Ramlila

Though the residents of Pathankot have rejected both- former BJP minister Master Mohan Lal and former Congres MLA, Pathankot, Ashok Sharma in the elections, still they are popular as actors in two different Ramlilas in Pathankot. Both get applause from the viewers on the Ramlila grounds and in the live telecasts when they perform.

Master Mohan Lal, who had been acting as Ravan in the Rmlila of Kali Mata Mandir since did not leave his role even when he remained a busy minister in the transport and forest department, while former Congress MLA Ashok Sharma who had been acting as Ram in the Ramlila of Krishna Natak Club also remained active on the stage in the Navaratri days despite his busy schedule as chairman of the tourism department and Pathankot MLA from 2002 to 2007.

"They are so dedicated to their performance and we love to see them on stage,"said Naval Kishore, a Pathankot resident, whose son acts as young Laxman in the Ramlila of Kali Mata Mandir.

"My son was a big fan of Master ji's acting. From his childhood he used imitate his dialogue and now he is one of the cast Ramlila,"Kishore added.

"I have been acting since 1966 in this Ramlila and has acted as Meghnad, Janak and Ravana beside direction in stage play,"Master Mohan Lal told HT.

"I have a passion for this stage and would continue till my health permits. This stage has given me so much,"he added.

Ashok Sharma said, "Acting in the character of Lord Ram makes a man pure. Though I have played many a roles yet playing Ram gives me pleasure. I started acting in Ramlila in 1965 and would continue."
